Includes personal and business correspondence, 1797-1860, of Twyman family members and relatives, chiefly of George Twyman, Joseph Twyman, and Joseph W. Twyman, concerning family and social news of Albemarle County and Charlottesville, Va., Kentucky, and Arkansas; religious thought; financial matters; and work in hemp factory and unemployment in Kentucky (1845). Also include letter, 1804, concerning the possibility that a slave may run away and complaints of the hired slaves; and letter, 1849, about death of family member from cholera epidemic in Kentucky. Includes land deeds and plats, 1750-1837, for Orange, Louisa, and Albemarle counties, Va.; bond, 1755, of George Twyman; promissory note, 1765; copy of bond and receipt, 1809; and transcripts and photostat of autobiography, 1811, of George Twyman. Also include papers, will, account, and legal opinion, 1803-1818, pertaining to George Twyman's estate; papers and accounts, 1821-54, concerning estate settlements; copies of wills, 1842-1843, of Joseph Twyman; note, 1846, about the names of slaves from the estate of Joseph Twyman; and copy of will, 1864, of George Crank. Also include letter, 1861, from R.G. Twyman to his sister, concerning social news from Arkansas, Secession and his refusal to fight; letters, 1861-1862, of Walker G. Twyman, with the 19th Virginia Infantry, and his sister, concerning troop movements to Manassas, camp life and homesickness, and the Earlysville militia; manuscript map, ca. 1861, of fortifications around Centreville, Va.; and pass, 1863, for James W. Twyman to visit his sons. Also include diary, 1872, of an Arkansas farm boy, William H. Coleman, recording his daily chores and social activities; letters, 1907-1908, re: Twyman genealogy; letter, 1911, from C.V. Buckley concerning his desire that his son meet relatives; genealogical data on Twyman family; and clippings.
